Commitment to Teaching
And a Lifetime of Creativity
Johanne's formal training includes a Bachelor of Music at University of Western Ontario where she studied voice, organ and composition. Her musical training began early with her mother, a professional concert pianist and organist from Denmark. From there she built up a lifetime of musical training in piano, voice, pipe organ, performance, history, theory and composition. Currently teaching in her home studio and at the Bowmanville Long and McQuade studio, she is a certified piano instructor with the Royal Conservatory of Music, and choral instructor for SONG (Sounds of the Next Generation). She also currently holds the position of Vice President for the Ontario Registered Music Teacher's Association, Whitby branch. She enjoys working as a freelance collaborative artist, accompanying voice students and local artists, performing as a solo vocalist, and she has been an avid chorister for decades.
Continuous pedagogical professional development helps her develop long=term lessons plans to meet the individual needs and dreams of each student with consistent enthusiasm. Collaboration and networking with other local musicians and instructors helps to facilitate a great deal of opportunities for her students to gain performing experience if they so desire. Though her own expertise is classical, she aims to help students reach their own personal goals by teaching in the genre they prefer.
